Your Puppy’s Foundation
Our puppies receive an excellent foundation before they go to their new homes. We start them on house training, crate training and grooming training. A well-trained puppy makes for a well-adjusted adult. Temperament is fifty percent inherited and fifty percent environmental, so new owners must continue proper training to preserve the good manners and stable temperaments we have nurtured.
Grooming — Starting Early
All puppies are taught about grooming procedures from a very young age. This gives them a good start on proper manners for a life of enjoyable, stress-free grooming care. Jessica is a professional groomer and has been grooming for over forty years. She ensures that each puppy becomes comfortable with grooming tools and handling.
Continuing regular grooming at home and with a professional groomer is important to keep your terrier looking and feeling their best. West Highland White Terriers, Scottish Terriers and Cairn Terriers all have double coats that require regular brushing, combing and stripping or clipping.
Training Tips for New Owners
- House training: Continue the house training routine your puppy has started. Consistency and a regular schedule are key.
- Crate training: The crate is your puppy’s safe haven. Keep it positive — never use it as punishment.
- Socialization: Gently expose your puppy to new people, environments and experiences to build confidence.
- Obedience: Begin basic obedience commands (sit, stay, come, down) early and practice daily with positive reinforcement.
- Terrier independence: Terriers are intelligent and independent. Patient, consistent training works best. Keep sessions short and positive.
Nutrition for a Long, Healthy Life
We strive for longevity and good health in our dogs. Many Foxcreek dogs live well into their late teens and even beyond twenty-one years. We believe this is due in part to good genetics and the quality foods and products we feed and use. Our dogs eat a high-quality dry dog food supplemented with natural and organic foods, including a variety of meats, fresh and cooked fruits and vegetables, and cooked organic eggs. A daily vitamin provides additional nutrients.
By continuing the training and nutrition practices we have started, new owners can help ensure that their Foxcreek puppy grows into a healthy, well-mannered and long-lived companion.
